Measuring your research impact

Citation analysis and Impact Factor

Introduction to research impact

Academic scholars often need to demonstrate the impact of their research for purposes such as promotion applications, securing research grants, and other academic evaluations.

Common tools for measuring the impact of academic publications include citation counts, journal impact factors, and the h-index.

Before exploring various citation metrics, we highly recommend that you:

  1. Sign up for an ORCID (Open Research and Contributor Identifier): Visit orcid.org and follow the instructions to register for a unique ORCID iD.

  2. Create a Google Scholar Citations Profile: This will enable you to track your citations.
